In order to minimize the use of fresh water as the base fluid for fracturing, the use of produced/flowback waters or salt water from source wells is growing within the industry. FR–9 is an extremely salt-tolerant friction reducer that significantly outperforms conventional options. FR–9 eliminates the need to treat “high salt” waters, chemically or otherwise, and is shown to perform well at nearly half the concentration of conventional friction reducers, lowering the horsepower required to place the treatment and making it more cost effective.
