Trican Well Service, in alliance with Western Pump Solutions, is involved in coiled tubing installations in which 3 coiled tubing strings are attached to a hydraulic submersible pump and simultaneously run into a wellbore and hung off from surface. The primary application of this system is for dewatering low-pressure gas wells. The installation uses two small “slave” coiled tubing strings and one larger “master” coiled tubing string. The two slave strings are attached to the drive section of a hydraulic submersible pump and circulate hydraulic oil in a closed system to drive a piston displacement system in the pump. The master string transfers well production through the pump from downhole to surface. Unlike most competitive pumping systems, this pump is not subject to gas lock. Through field applications, it has been shown to outlast many of the competitive devices while providing a cost-effective solution to gas well dewatering, with particular emphasis on coalbed methane production.
