Motor Gas Separators

motor_gas_separatorsNitrified fluids are often pumped in under-pressured wells to ensure full returns to surface during workover operations. On some operations where downhole motors or jetting tools are employed, the use of nitrogen gas will reduce the efficiency of their performance.

Trican’s patented Motor Gas Separators can be used to separate the nitrogen from the fluid phase before it reaches the BHA (usually a mud motor or jetting tool). Bypassing the gas allows operation of the motor or tool at the designed fluid flow rate, while pumping nitrogen at the rates required to ensure full returns in a low-pressure well.

  • MGSTM
MGS incorporates a rotary drum separator that removes the gas from energized flow before it reaches the downhole motor. The gas separator extends the life of the motor in deep, hot wells and prevents motor “overspeed” and premature failure in general.
  • MGS-HydraTM
MGS-Hydra is used in conjunction with HydroMill™ to separate the nitrogen and fluid phases of the flow before it reaches the downhole jetting tool. This helps achieve efficient jetting/hydraulic milling, while maintaining under-balanced pressure in the well so that minimal fluid is lost to formation. A typical application would be low-pressured wells that are in need of scale removal.
